Install and Use the Seedr Firefox Add-on

The Seedr Firefox add-on turns any file link or direct download URL into a right-click → Send to Seedr away from hitting your disk. No local download app, no open tabs on a sketchy site, no waiting for the file to finish on your home connection.
What this gets you
- A Seedr icon in your Firefox toolbar. Click it to paste a link and add it to your Seedr account.
- A right-click menu entry on any link: Send to Seedr. File links, direct file URLs, you name it.
- Automatic detection of file links on pages you browse — the toolbar icon lights up when a supported link is found on the current page.
- One-click login with your existing Seedr session cookies, so no password re-entry.
What you need
- Firefox 115 or later (desktop). Firefox for Android supports the add-on too on recent builds.
- A Seedr account — the Free tier is enough to install and test the add-on. Premium gets you faster grabs and higher concurrent-transfer limits.
- Permission to install a browser extension (on work machines this may be policy-blocked).
Setup, step by step
1. Install from addons.mozilla.org
- Open Firefox.
- Visit the Seedr add-on page on addons.mozilla.org (search "Seedr" in the Firefox Add-ons site if the direct link changes).
- Click Add to Firefox.
- Firefox shows the permissions prompt. Seedr's add-on asks for: - Access to your data for seedr.cc and related domains (to log you in). - Access to data on all websites (needed to detect supported links and send-to-Seedr on any page you right-click).
- Click Add.
2. Sign in
- Click the Seedr icon in the toolbar.
- It opens seedr.cc. Sign in (email + password, or the social-login provider you used).
- After sign-in, the add-on picks up your session. The icon turns active.
You do not paste an API key. The add-on uses your browser session.
3. Try it — three ways to send to Seedr
Right-click a file link
On any site, right-click the link you want to save → Send to Seedr. A small toast confirms the link was added. Open your Seedr tab to see it queued.
Use the toolbar icon on a page with supported links
Open a page that has a link to a file. The Seedr icon shows a small badge if the add-on detects one. Click → Add to Seedr.
Paste a direct link
Click the toolbar icon → paste the URL you want to save. Hit Add. Seedr fetches the file into your cloud.
4. Pin the icon
Right-click the Firefox toolbar → Customize Toolbar → drag the Seedr icon to a visible slot if it landed in the overflow menu. Useful for muscle-memory right-click flow.
Troubleshooting
- "Send to Seedr" menu item does nothing — you are not signed in. Click the toolbar icon, sign in on seedr.cc, then reload the page and retry.
- Add-on disabled after a Firefox update — Firefox occasionally revokes extensions that have not been updated for manifest v3. Reinstall from addons.mozilla.org; the add-on ships an updated build.
- Links open a desktop app on your computer instead of going to Seedr — some OS protocol handlers grab certain URL types at the system level. Use right-click → Send to Seedr from the add-on's context menu; do not left-click.
- Works in normal browsing, fails in Private Windows — extensions are disabled in Private Browsing by default. Fix: about:addons → Seedr → Allowed to run in Private Windows → on.
- "Add failed: not logged in" while you're visibly signed in — the extension's session cookie diverged. Open seedr.cc in a normal tab, sign out, sign back in. Or clear cookies for seedr.cc and re-auth.
- Corporate / school network blocks the add-on request — your firewall is filtering the API call to seedr.cc. Try on a different network to confirm, then ask IT to allow seedr.cc and www.seedr.cc.
- Android Firefox doesn't show the add-on — only the main Firefox build supports extensions on Android, and only a curated list historically. If it is not in the Android add-ons list yet, use the Seedr PWA from mobile Firefox instead.
What works well, and known limits
Works well
- One-click handoff of any file link from any page.
- Direct-link fetch for big file downloads (distro ISOs, large archives).
- Works alongside Firefox's container tabs — the add-on uses the currently-active container's cookies.
Known limits
- No UI for managing existing Seedr tasks inside the add-on. It adds things; it does not replace the web UI. Use the Seedr tab or PWA to manage running transfers.
- Only one Seedr account at a time. The add-on uses your active Firefox session on seedr.cc.
- Manifest v3 behaviour: the add-on uses a service worker, so the first click after a browser restart may be slightly slower while the worker spins up.
- Free-tier limits apply. Anything you add from the add-on counts against your Free storage and bandwidth like any other transfer.
Wrap
Right-click a link, it goes to the cloud. That is the whole point of the add-on. Install once, send forever.
