Seedr for students

How It Works

Seedr is cloud storage that runs entirely in your browser. No app to download, no software to install, no special network configuration. Log in from any computer — library, lab, dorm, phone — and your files are there.

Uses standard HTTPS on port 443, the same protocol as Google, YouTube, and every normal website. If your network lets you browse the web, it lets you use Seedr. No exceptions, no extra ports, no protocols that get blocked.

Why This Matters on Campus

University networks are managed networks. IT departments configure what traffic is allowed. Some applications work fine at home but don't work on campus wifi — different ports, different protocols, different rules.

Seedr avoids all of that. It's a website. Your browser makes a normal HTTPS request to seedr.cc, same as visiting any other site. The actual downloading happens on Seedr's servers, not on your device and not on your network. Your campus network only sees you visiting a website.

This means:

  • Works on dorm wifi with strict policies
  • Works on library and lab computers
  • Works at coffee shops, airports, hotels
  • Works anywhere you can open a web browser

Pricing

PlanStorageStreamingPrice
Free2GB360p$0
Lite10GB360p$3.95/mo
Basic50GB720p HD$7.95/mo

Free works for trying it out. Lite handles regular use. Basic adds HD streaming if you watch a lot of video.

No Installation Required

Library computers and campus labs usually don't let you install software. Seedr runs entirely in the browser:

  • Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — any modern browser
  • No plugins, no extensions, no Java
  • No admin rights needed
  • Works on Chromebooks

Open browser → go to seedr.cc → log in. That's it.

Stream Instead of Download

Your phone has 64GB. You're already at 58GB with apps and photos. Your laptop has a 256GB SSD that's perpetually full. Storage is the constant struggle.

With Seedr, you don't download files to watch them. Video streams directly in your browser. The file stays in the cloud — your device storage stays untouched.

  • Watch a 15GB file without using 15GB of storage
  • Stream on your phone without filling it up
  • Only download files you actually need to keep locally

Stream what you want to watch. Delete when you're done. Your devices stay lean.

Mobile Access

Seedr works on phones and tablets through the browser. You can also add it to your home screen for quick access (PWA).

  • Stream on phone between classes
  • Add links from share sheet
  • Same files, phone or computer

Using shared computers or public wifi? Seedr keeps your data secure:

  • All connections encrypted (HTTPS)
  • Files encrypted at rest (256-bit AES)
  • 2FA available for account protection
  • Session management — see logged-in devices, revoke access

Remember to log out on shared computers. More about security →

Getting Started

Setup takes about 30 seconds:

  1. Go to seedr.cc and click Sign Up
  2. Enter email and password (or use Google/Facebook login)
  3. Verify your email
  4. Start using — you get 2GB free immediately

No credit card required for the free plan. You can upgrade later from account settings if you need more storage.

Managing Storage

With limited storage (2GB free, 10GB Lite), you'll want to manage space efficiently:

Delete After Watching

Stream a video, then delete it when done. Files don't need to stay in Seedr once you've watched them.

Download Important Files

If you need a file permanently, download it to your computer or phone, then delete from Seedr to free space.

Storage Cleanup

Seedr shows file sizes in your dashboard. Sort by size to find large files you can remove. The storage bar shows how much space you're using.

Cloud Sync

Connect Seedr to Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. Files can be transferred directly between cloud services without downloading to your device first.

Common Questions

Does it work on campus wifi?

Yes. Seedr uses HTTPS on port 443 — the same as every normal website. Campus networks that restrict certain applications or protocols don't affect Seedr because it looks like any other website to the network. If you can browse the web, you can use Seedr.

Can I use it on library computers?

Yes. No installation needed. Just open browser and log in.

What's the catch with the free plan?

2GB storage, 360p streaming quality. Enough to try it out. Upgrade to Lite ($3.95/mo) for 10GB.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Monthly plans have no contract. Cancel from your account settings.

What if I need more than 10GB?

Basic plan offers 50GB for $7.95/mo with 720p HD streaming. Pro offers 150GB for $12.95/mo with 1080p. Most students find Lite or Basic sufficient.

Is there a student discount?

No specific student discount, but the Lite plan at $3.95/mo is already priced for budget-conscious users.

Can I use Seedr on my phone?

Yes. The website works on mobile browsers. You can also add it to your home screen as a PWA for quick access without installing an app.

What happens to my files if I cancel?

Files remain accessible for a grace period after cancellation. After that, the account reverts to free tier limits (2GB). Files exceeding that limit become inaccessible until you upgrade again or delete files.

Is my activity private?

Seedr doesn't share your activity with third parties. Files are stored encrypted. Your IP address isn't exposed when adding content — only Seedr's servers connect to external sources.

Can multiple people share an account?

Accounts are for individual use per terms of service. Each person should have their own account. The free tier makes this easy — everyone can sign up separately.

Will my school see what I'm downloading?

Your school sees you accessing seedr.cc — a normal HTTPS website. They don't see what files you're downloading because the download happens on Seedr's servers, not through your campus connection. Files in your account are encrypted.

I ran out of space. What do I do?

Delete files you've already watched, or download important ones to your device first, then delete from Seedr. You can also upgrade to Lite ($3.95/mo) for 10GB instead of 2GB.

Can I pay with PayPal?

Yes. We accept PayPal, credit cards, and cryptocurrency.

2GB included, no credit card required.
