# Install Seedr as an app with the new PWA

The Seedr PWA lets you install Seedr on desktop and mobile like a native app. Home-screen icon, full-screen UI, faster launch. No app store required.

## Seedr now installs like an app

The Seedr Progressive Web App lets you install Seedr directly on your desktop or mobile device. Home-screen icon, full-screen UI, faster launch, no app store required. Same account, same files, same cloud — but it feels like a native app instead of a browser tab.

## Why we built this

Browser tabs are fine. They are also noisy. If Seedr is the thing you open three times a day to add a link or check a download, it deserves its own icon. It deserves to launch in one tap. It deserves not to be buried behind fourteen other tabs.

The friction pattern was clear:

- "I want Seedr on my phone home screen, not inside Safari."
- "I do not want to sign into an app store just to install a file app."
- "I want it to feel like an app, not like a bookmarked page."
- "I do not want to wait for an app update cycle when you ship a feature."

A PWA fixes all of those at once. It is installable. It skips the app store. It feels like an app. And it updates the moment we ship, because it is still just the web app.

## What changed

Before: Seedr ran inside a browser tab. Home-screen install was possible on some browsers but not promoted and easy to miss.

Now:

- **First-class install prompt** on desktop and mobile, with a home-screen icon afterwards.
- **Full-screen UI.** No browser chrome, no tab strip. Just Seedr.
- **Instant launch** from your home screen or desktop.
- **Dark mode** built in.
- **Smart link handling.** Paste a link or URL from the clipboard, and the PWA adds it to your account.
- **Cross-device sync** because it is still your cloud account behind the scenes.
- **Always up to date.** No app-store review delays when we ship a fix.

One honest note on **offline access**: V2 offline play is a preview feature available on V2 iOS at launch. The PWA opens the door to offline, but the actual downloaded-for-later playback is gated by plan and still rolling out. Do not expect full offline today on every device.

## How to install

### On mobile

iOS (Safari):

1. Open seedr.cc in Safari.
2. Tap the **Share** icon.
3. Choose **Add to Home Screen**.
4. Name it, tap Add. Seedr now lives on your home screen.

Android (Chrome):

1. Open seedr.cc in Chrome.
2. Tap the three-dot menu.
3. Choose **Install app** (or **Add to Home screen**).
4. Confirm. Seedr now launches as a standalone app.

### On desktop

Chrome, Edge, or any Chromium browser:

1. Open seedr.cc.
2. Look for the **install** icon in the address bar (a small computer with a down arrow).
3. Click it and confirm.
4. Seedr opens in its own window and shows up in your dock or start menu.

Safari on macOS: open Seedr, then **File → Add to Dock**.

## Roadmap

Still in progress:

- **Push notifications** for save-complete and storage-low events on devices that support them.
- **Deep link handling** so download links on your phone open the Seedr PWA automatically.
- **Offline play stabilisation** on V2 Android (iOS is first at launch).
- **Share-sheet integration** so other apps can send links straight into Seedr.

Honest limit: PWAs behave slightly differently on each platform. iOS has stricter rules around background activity and offline than Android or desktop. We build around the strictest common set, so some polish shows up on one platform before another.

## Install it and move on

The PWA is the shortest path to "Seedr lives on my home screen and launches in one tap." Install it, forget it, and let it stay out of your way.
