Set up the Seedr Connector on Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS SCALE, Unraid or Docker. One outgoing connection, no port forwarding, no public IP.

The Seedr Connector is a small program that runs on your NAS or on a Linux machine on your home network. It lets you mount the NAS folders you choose in Seedr, next to your other storages. Version 1.0.0 is out now.

It makes one outgoing, encrypted connection to Seedr on TCP port 443. You do not need port forwarding or a public IP address. Seedr never gets your NAS password.

## How it works

- Only the folders you list in config.json are visible to Seedr. You can mark each folder read-only.
- The Connector reconnects by itself after a network drop or a NAS restart. You do not need to pair again after a restart.
- It runs as the owner of your NAS share (that user's UID and GID), not as root. It needs no privileged mode, no published ports and no Docker socket.

## Set it up in five steps

The app walks you through this in Settings, on the Seedr Connector screen. Open **/app/settings**.

1. **Install. **Pick your NAS type in the next section. The full install guide is on [GitHub](<https://github.com/seedrcc/seedr-connector-releases>).
2. **Create config.json. **Add a name for the NAS and the folders you want to share. Then run `pair`. It prints a Seedr address and an 8-character code.
3. **Allow. **Open the address, or enter the code on the Seedr Connector screen. Check that it is your account, then choose Allow.
4. **Start. **Start the Connector with the `run` command and keep it running.
5. **Mount. **In Seedr, pick the shared folder and choose Mount. It appears with your other storages.

## Install on your NAS

Docker image: `ghcr.io/seedrcc/seedr-connector:1.0.0`. It is public, needs no login and covers several CPU types. It is on GitHub Container Registry, not Docker Hub. The tag `latest` also exists. For a plain Linux install, download a binary from the [v1.0.0 release page](<https://github.com/seedrcc/seedr-connector-releases/releases/tag/v1.0.0>): Linux amd64, arm64 or armv7. The release includes a SHA256SUMS file so you can check your download.

| NAS or system | How to install |
| --- | --- |
| Synology | Container Manager. Add the registry https://ghcr.io first, or create a Compose project. |
| QNAP | Container Station. |
| TrueNAS SCALE | Custom App. |
| Unraid | Docker, then Add Container. |
| Any Docker host | Plain Docker or Docker Compose. |
| Linux without Docker | Run the binary under your NAS service supervisor. |

Each system needs its own few settings, such as the config and state folders. The [README on GitHub](<https://github.com/seedrcc/seedr-connector-releases>) has the exact steps for each one.

## Manage your connectors

- **Your connectors. **The Seedr Connector screen lists every connector with its online status, when it was last seen, whether it is read-only and whether a folder is mounted.
- **Revoke access. **This cuts the connector off within seconds, even in the middle of a transfer. To connect again, run `pair` again.
- **More than one NAS. **You can connect several NAS devices to one account, within your connector limit. Give each its own name and its own state directory.
- **Plan limits. **Connectors depend on your plan. If your plan has no connectors, or you reached your connector limit, Seedr tells you in plain words.

## Update the Connector

1. Stop the Connector.
2. Keep your config and state folders.
3. Replace the image tag or the binary with the new version.
4. Start it again. With Docker Compose, run `docker compose pull && docker compose up -d`.

## Fix common problems

| You see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| `invalid_client` | Contact Seedr support. |
| `cannot open configuration` | The config path is missing or not readable. Check the path and the file permissions. |
| Credential or state errors | Fix the ownership or permissions. The guide lists 0700 for the state folder and 0600 for its files. |
| `revoked` | Access was revoked. Run pair again. |

## Looking for another way?

You can also add your NAS over FTPS, SFTP or WebDAV. That route needs open ports on your router. See Connect your NAS to Seedr. To use Seedr from your NAS instead, see Mount Seedr on your NAS.
